LED Screen Price in Malaysia: What Affects the Cost?
There is no single standard LED screen price. This guide explains the factors that affect LED screen cost in Malaysia, including pixel pitch, screen size, indoor or outdoor use, structure, installation and system configuration.
Why LED Screen Prices Vary
There is no single standard price for an LED screen in Malaysia. Every project is configured according to its own requirements, and the final quotation reflects the combined cost of multiple system components and services, not only the LED modules themselves.
The cost of an LED display project is influenced by factors including:
- •LED modules
- •Cabinets
- •Receiving cards
- •Controller / video processor
- •Power supplies
- •Supporting structure
- •Cabling
- •Electrical protection
- •Installation labour
- •Testing and commissioning
- •Transport
- •Maintenance access
- •Warranty support
Because of this, a low display-only rate per square metre does not necessarily represent the final installed project cost. A meaningful quotation is prepared based on the actual project specifications, site conditions and required scope of work.
1. Pixel Pitch
Pixel pitch is one of the factors that most strongly affects LED screen cost. Pixel pitch refers to the distance between the centres of adjacent LEDs on the display. A smaller pitch means higher pixel density — more LEDs per display area — which can increase system cost.
Smaller pixel pitch
- •Higher pixel density
- •More LEDs per display area
- •Commonly selected for closer viewing
- •Can increase system cost
Larger pixel pitch
- •Lower pixel density
- •May suit longer viewing distances
- •May reduce display cost depending on project requirements
Common pixel pitches encountered in Malaysian projects include P1.25, P1.5, P1.8, P2, P2.5 and P5. The suitable pitch is selected based on viewing distance, screen size and content — not on price alone.
For a detailed explanation, read our LED Screen Pixel Pitch Guide or our focused P1.8 vs P2 LED Display Guide.
2. Screen Size and Total Display Area
Larger screens generally require more LED modules, more cabinets, more power supplies, more receiving cards, a larger supporting structure and more installation work. As a result, total project cost typically increases with screen size.
However, cost should not be understood as area alone. Two screens with the same total display area can still have very different costs depending on pixel pitch, cabinet configuration, structure, controller and installation requirements. A larger screen with a larger pitch may cost less per square metre than a smaller screen with a fine pitch, even though the total area is greater.
Screen size is therefore one of several variables that interact to determine the final quotation, not a standalone basis for pricing.
3. Indoor vs Outdoor LED Screen
The installation environment affects cost because indoor and outdoor projects have different construction, structural and installation requirements.
Indoor projects may prioritise
- •Image detail
- •Closer viewing
- •Front-service access
- •Wall mounting
- •Controlled lighting
Outdoor projects may require
- •Stronger structural support
- •Weather-resistant cabinet design
- •Higher brightness capability
- •Weather-resistant electrical work
- •Maintenance access and site-specific structural planning

4. Fine Pitch LED Cost Factors
Fine pitch LED systems can cost more for several reasons, including smaller pixel pitch, higher pixel density, tighter module tolerances, higher-resolution system requirements and closer-viewing application demands. Cabinet and maintenance requirements may also differ from standard-pitch installations.
Common applications for fine pitch LED include:
- •Boardrooms
- •Control rooms
- •Auditoriums
- •Premium corporate environments
Not all fine pitch systems are expensive or premium by default. Cost depends on the selected pitch, screen size, controller and installation scope. See our Fine Pitch LED Display page for more detail.
5. Cabinet and Module Configuration
Cost can vary depending on cabinet and module configuration, including:
- •Cabinet size
- •Cabinet material
- •Front-service vs rear-service design
- •Module type
- •Maintenance method
- •Installation method
Configuration should be selected based on site conditions and maintenance requirements. A front-service cabinet may be selected where rear access is limited, while a rear-service cabinet may be suitable where rear access is available. The appropriate choice affects both cost and long-term serviceability.
6. LED Controller and Video Processing System
The controller or video processing system is a meaningful part of the total project cost. Pricing may depend on:
- •Screen resolution
- •Number of pixels
- •Input requirements
- •Signal distribution
- •Scaling requirements
- •Redundancy requirements where applicable
- •Video processor / controller selection
Systems such as Colorlight or NOVA may be used depending on the project configuration, but no specific controller is mandatory for every project. The suitable controller is selected based on resolution, input requirements and system scope. Controller models are not assigned to projects unless already verified in the project data.
7. Supporting Structure and Mounting
Supporting structure is one of the biggest reasons quotations differ between projects. Possible structural requirements include:
- •Wall-mounted frame
- •Freestanding structure
- •Pillar structure
- •Suspended structure
- •Building façade mounting
- •Outdoor structural support
- •Aluminium or steel framing depending on engineering requirements
Structure cost depends on:
- •Screen size
- •Installation height
- •Site condition
- •Access
- •Wind and structural requirements where applicable
- •Engineering design
Structural design for outdoor installations may require professional engineering assessment. This article does not replace engineering certification or site-specific professional evaluation.
8. Electrical Work and Power Distribution
Electrical work is a project-specific cost component. Possible items include:
- •Distribution board / distribution
- •MCB / isolator where required
- •Cabling
- •Trunking
- •Sockets / connection points
- •Power distribution to the LED system
- •Electrical protection
The required electrical design depends on the actual total load and site conditions. Breaker and protection sizing is determined based on the specific installation and should be confirmed in the project quotation. No universal breaker size applies to all LED screen installations.
9. Installation Height and Site Access
Site access affects installation cost because different access conditions require different methods and equipment. Examples include:
- •Ground-level installation
- •Indoor wall installation
- •High-level installation
- •Scaffolding
- •Boom lift
- •Skylift
- •Crane access
- •Difficult loading access
Not all projects require lifting equipment. A ground-level or low-height indoor installation may involve simpler access, while a high-level outdoor installation may require specialised equipment and planning. Access conditions are assessed during quotation preparation.
10. Transportation and Logistics
Project location affects logistics cost. Relevant factors include:
- •Transport
- •Delivery
- •Site access
- •Accommodation where applicable
- •Equipment transport
- •Installation scheduling
Logistics requirements vary by project location and site conditions. No fixed transport charge applies to all installations.
11. Warranty, Spare Parts and Technical Support
Quotations may include different levels of warranty and support. Relevant items include:
- •Warranty
- •Spare parts
- •Onsite support
- •Remote technical support
- •Maintenance
- •Training
There is no single universal warranty period for all LED products. Warranty period and support scope should be confirmed in the project quotation.
Why RM per Square Foot or RM per Square Metre Can Be Misleading
A simple unit rate per square foot or square metre can be useful for early budgeting, but it does not represent the full project cost. A low display-only unit price may exclude:
- •Structure
- •Electrical work
- •Controller
- •Installation
- •Logistics
- •Commissioning
- •Warranty
- •Maintenance access requirements
Buyers should compare quotations based on scope, not only unit price. Two quotations with a similar unit rate may include very different scope, and the lower unit rate may not represent the better value once structure, electrical work, controller, installation and warranty are accounted for.
Why Two Similar-Sized LED Screens Can Have Different Prices
The following non-price example illustrates why two screens with a similar total display area can have very different cost structures.
Example A
- •Indoor P2
- •Wall-mounted
- •Shorter viewing distance
- •Simple access
Example B
- •Outdoor P5
- •Freestanding / structural installation
- •Weather protection
- •Higher installation complexity
- •Electrical and structural requirements
Even if the total screen area is similar, the cost structure can be very different. The outdoor example involves structural, weather-protection and electrical work that the indoor wall-mounted example may not require. This is why quotations must be assessed on full scope rather than area alone.
